Tasting Saturday

Domaine Bellevue Touraine 2014 Sauvignon Blanc, Loire Valley, France (Carolyn)

Aromas of citrus and exotic fruits and flowers dominate this crisp, minerally Sauvignon Blanc from a fourth generation family owned estate in the Loire Valley. This is a wonderful wine with raw oysters, vegetables either raw or grilled, also pork or chicken dishes.

Regularly: $12.99

Mills Club: $11.69

Case Price: $10.39

Bread and Butter 2013 Chardonnay, Napa, California (Tim)

Oak and butter fans, rejoice!!! This is a nicely oaked yet affordable wine, with aromas and flavors of toasted nuts, baked peach, vanilla and apples. The buttery, medium-bodied texture will nicely compliment soft, mild cheeses, crab, lobster or salmon, or try with a nice soup like butternut squash.

Regularly: $14.99

Mills Club: $13.49

Case Price: $11.99

Steelhead 2013 Pinot Noir, California (Pat D.)

We thought this Pinot Noir presented great value for the price! Lots of dark cherry and dried strawberry fruit notes precede a hint of spice and a touch of oak. Medium-bodied, this will pair nicely with richer seafood dishes and roasted poultry dishes. Interestingly, rainbow trout and steelhead are the same species, the difference between them being their lifestyle: Rainbow trout are freshwater fish, whereas Steelhead spend part of their lives in the sea, or are “anadromous”. They are named for their silvery steely looking heads.

Regular Price: $14.99

Mills Club: $13.49

Case Price: $11.99

Marc Plouzeau’s 2013 Chateau de la Bonneliere “Les Cornuelles” Chinon, Loire Valley, France (Jen and Jerry)

This is a WOW wine from Marc Plouzeau, a pioneer in Organic farming in the Chinon village of the Loire. 100% Cabernet Franc, hand harvested from a single parcel of 53 year old vines aged in 3-5 year old demi-muid barrels, bottled unfiltered. An incredible value for a single vineyard offering! Medium-bodied with nice acidity, blackberry and plum dark fruit flavors with tobacco and earth accents, the impressive factor here is the intensity of the fruit, elegance, finesse and body. Downright delicious with lamb, roasted beef and game dishes. “Cornuelles” is a term meaning French Anise Cookies.

Regular Price: $21.99

Mills Club: $19.79

Case Price: $17.59

Taken Wine Company 2013 Red Blend, Napa Valley, California (Jeremy)

Try this splurge worthy 60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 40% Merlot BIG, bold blend from Napa “royalty” Carlo Trinchero and Josh Phelps (sons of Napa pioneer winemakers). Rated 91pts by Antonio Galloni, “A rich, full-throttle wine, the 2013 Taken is one of the more flamboyant wines readers will come across in this vintage. Unctuous on the palate, the 2013 is loaded with tons of super-ripe fruit and French oak, with all of its elements nicely put together.” Try this big juicy wine with an equally big juicy steak!!!

Regularly: $34.99

Mills Club: $31.49

Case Price: $27.99

Predator 2014 Old Vine Zinfandel, Lodi, California (Andres)

Predator is sourced from 50-year-old vines that produce rich and intensely flavored fruit. This is a big and bold full-bodied red with velvety texture and spice, and flavors of blackberry, smoke and bacon. This would be an excellent match with sweet barbequed ribs, beef stew, burgers topped with blue cheese, or pizza with bold sausage or pepperoni toppings.

Regular Price: $16.99

Mills Club: $15.29

Case Price: $13.59
