Vinoterra 2014 Mtsvane, Republic of Georgia (Andres)
The Republic of Georgia is widely considered to have one of the earliest winemaking cultures. Shards of primitive winemaking vessels have been unearthed from 8000 years ago. Vinoterra is a wine brand under the Shuchmann winery, all of the wines utilizing Qvevri, large clay jars buried underground for fermentation, maceration and aging. Vinoterra white wines are orange wines as they see nearly six months of skin, seed, and stem contact during the fermentation process. The grape in this wine is Mtsvane, an indigenous Georgian grape. Expect a generous mouthfeel of spicy golden fruit followed by some saline, herbal notes like capers. A completely natural wine, this uses only wild/airborne yeasts and is unfiltered.
