Chateau Recougne 2010 Bordeaux Superieur, Bordeaux, France (Mike)

Robert Parker at one time called Recougne the finest Bordeaux Superieur-this is an estate that has produced wine for over 400 years! The estate is classified under the Fronsac appellation. This particular full-bodied blend is composed of 77% Merlot, 14% Cabernet Franc, and 9% Cabernet Sauvignon, is smoothly textured with a long finish, tasting of plum cassis, caramel and spicy oak. Drink with braised or roasted beef or roasted lamb.

Riofavara Eloro 2011 Nero D’avola Spaccaforno, Sicily, Italy (Jen & Jerry)

“Spaccaforno” is the former name of the commune of Ispica, where the estate is located in Sicily. The Padova family has cultivated grapes here for nearly a century, but only started bottling their own wine in 1993. This is the first Sicilian producer to be represented by Kermit Lynch, which is reflective of their meticulous organic wine making techniques. This is a vivacious Nero D’Avola, with minerality drawn from the area’s rocky limestone and marl terrain, hand harvested and unfiltered-6 months in French oak yield a dry, fresh soft balanced ruby red wine with dried fruit aromas. Drink this full-bodied red with meat balls or swordfish.
