Cantina di Gambellara i Basalti 2018 Soave, Veneto, Italy (Andres)

No taste compromise is required for this super affordable wine made from 100% Garanega grapes!  Pretty fruit notes such as apple, pear, and star fruit are accompanied by mineral notes from the volcanic soils and refreshing acidity. Enjoy this wine as an aperitif or to pair with pasta dishes, risotto, or seafood. Cantina Gambellara is a cooperative of 26 growers, who have worked together since 1947 to make delicious, affordable wines.

Domaine Lèon Boesch 2017 “Luss” Riesling, Alsace (Tim)

Gerard and Matthew are the father and son team at the helm today in Westhalten, a commune located in the Ballons des Vosges nature reserve in Alsace.  Grown entirely without chemicals, their wines have been certified biodynamic since 2000.  The door of woven straw pictured on the label is a nod to the Noble Valley heritage, important to the duo as the 10thand 11thgeneration to uphold the winemaking tradition in their family. Showing pepper, plum and currant, this dry Riesling shows nice density, deftly combining power and richness. Try with hot and sour soup, ramen, or spicy pork tacos.

Netzl 2018 Gruner Veltliner, Carnuntum, Austria (Jen & Jerry)

Lemon zest and pear notes are fresh and zippy, followed by a touch of peppery spice in this white wine made from the Gruner Veltliner grape, a varietal grown almost exclusively in Austria.  If you enjoy Sauvignon Blanc, this is a potential alternative if you’re looking to try something new.  Try with fried calamari, lemon chicken or crisp salads with bright, citrus-based dressing.  Dad Franz and daughter Christine handle the winemaking at this small, boutique estate located in the village of Gòttlesbrunn in the region of Carnuntum.

Menhir “Il Mandorlo” 2018 Negroamaro, Salento, Italy (Andrew)

Brothers Gaetano and Vito Marangelli purchased the vineyards in 2000 with the aim of working with ancient varietals and implementing organic farming.  Located on the Salento Peninsula in the “heel of the boot” Puglia region, the estate is just 4 miles from the Adriatic Sea. Exhibiting fresh red cherry, licorice and touches of black pepper and earth, this medium-bodied red is a great pairing with slowly roasted or braised meats or a cheese and charcuterie platter.  ORGANIC

Spellbound 2016 Petite Sirah, California (Pat)

Pat ran across this wine doing research for a wine article and fell in love. Spellbound is part of Folio Wine Partners, a Michael Mondavi Family Company. The grapes for this wine are sourced from different California vineyards.  Featuring rich blackberries and blueberries, vanilla bean and roasted coffee, this wine finishes opulent and juicy with moderate tannins; pair with smoky barbecued meats.

Three Finger Jack 2017 Cabernet Sauvignon, Lodi, California (Aron)

Three Finger Jack was a gold rush guy who apparently lost two fingers somewhere along the way. Regardless this Cab is tasty, featuring generous black currant and black cherry as well as dark cocoa notes. Soft, well integrated tannins make for a smooth finish. Try with burgers or steaks!

Zorzettig 2018 Sauvignon, Friuli, Italy (Andrew)

A taste of this wine left us unable to resist its charms; addition to our already overflowing Italian white wine section was inevitable. Made from 100% Sauvignon Blanc harvested from the Friuli Colli Orientali appellation, this boasts robust flavors of lemon peel, sage and elderberry. Bright acidity makes this a lively match for asparagus, risotto, and creamy pastas. Downright delicious!

Chateau Spencer la Pugade “La P’tite Envie” 2018 Corbieres Blanc, France (Pat)

From the Languedoc-Roussillon subregion of Corbieres comes this refreshing white wine made from 70% Vermentino, 20% Roussanne and 10% Marsanne.  Floral aromatics precede fresh, mouth watering acidity; try with mixed greens topped with poached chicken, apples and walnuts dressed with a tangy vinaigrette.

Chateau Minuty M 2019 Rosè, Provence (Aron)

Minuty has established itself as the most popular Rosè in Provence, the Saint-Tropez peninsula seemingly awash in its pink freshness! Made from Grenache, Cinsault and Syrah, this wine yields pretty notes of peach, red currant and citrus with a round, easy-to-drink mouthfeel. Food versatile, you can serve this with pistou soup and crusty bread, pizza, or steamed shrimp.

Chateau Burgozone Via Istrum Marsalan, Bulgaria (Jen & Jerry)

Chateau Burgozone is located in the Danubian Plain of Bulgaria, with ruins of the Roman Fortress of Burgozone in the vineyard! Via Istrum is the ancient Roman road which the fortress was built upon. This red is made from the Marsalan grape, a varietal that was made in France in 1961 by crossing Cabernet Sauvignon and Grenache. Aged in French oak for 12 months, it features cherry and black fruit notes and soft tannins. Try with barbecued or roasted meats.

La Rioja Alta 2015 Viña Alberdi Reserva (Tim)

This 100% Tempranillo from high altitude vineyards (500-600meters) spends two years in American oak, displaying classic Rioja profile: full-bodied, juicy, and round with plums, red fruits and hints of vanilla.
