Cavaliere 2021 Vernaccia di San Gimignano, Italy (Aron)

Tuscany’s most popular white wine, Vernaccia has been grown around the sleepy hill town of San Gimignano since ancient times.  Dry yet abundant in citrus fruit notes and crisp acidity, this will pair nicely with Panzanella or Caprese salad, or fresh fish grilled in foil topped with lemons and Mediterranean herbs.

Care 2020 Blanco Sobre Lias, Cariñena, Spain (Griffin)

A blend of 60% Garnacha Blanco and 40% Chardonnay, this white wine is from the town of Cariñena in northeastern Spain, an area thought to be the origin of the grape known as Carignan in France. Showing aromas of honeysuckle and jasmine and white peach and melon flavor notes, the soft creamy texture is pleasing and lends accompaniment to lobster rolls or crab cakes.

Te Awanga Estate 2022 Wildsong Sauvignon Blanc, Hawkes Bay, New Zealand (Tim)

This 100% Sauvignon Blanc hails from the Hawkes Bay appellation of New Zealand, which is part of the Northern island.  Te Awanga, a rural beachside town popular with golfers and birdwatchers alike, enjoys a thin layer of volcanic loess soil over deep beds of gravel. Showing flinty minerality and bright nectarine and grapefruit notes, this wine is a wonderful pairing for grilled chicken skewers, lemon shrimp risotto, or Hawaiian pork tenderloin with grilled pineapple and peppers.

LaRoche 2022 Le Petit Chardonnay, France (Jen & Jerry)

A renewed interest in lower alcohol and lower sugar content wines led us to this “Petite Chardonnay”, a joint project between Mas La Chevaliere and LaRoche with grapes sourced from the relatively cool Orb Valley and Limoux areas of France. This is a lighter Chardonnay with minimal oak treatment (only 7.5% of the wine is exposed to oak for a short period of time); lees aging occurs for 4-5months which creates textural interest.  With 9.5% alcohol and 80 calories per glass, this is a nice option when you’re trying to achieve fitness goals.

Luis Pato Vinhas Velhas 2020 Vinha Branco White, Portugal (Griffin)

The Atlantic Ocean breezes have a cooling effect on the Bairrada region, situated between Porto and Lisbon in Portugal.  This old-vines white wine is comprised of three Native varietals Bical, Cercial and Cercialinho.  The wine undergoes malolactic fermentation and sees only large French oak for 6 months. Nicely aromatic with tones of citrus and white peach, this medium-bodied white is a lovely pairing for grilled chicken or fish.

Domaine Corne Loupe 2022 Tavel Rosè, France (Pat)

Rosè has flowed in the Tavel appellation of the Rhone Valley since the Popes summered in Avignon in the 1300s. Corne Loup got its name from where the horn (corne) was blown in the village when there was a wolf (loupe) siting. Made from Grenache, Cinsault, Syrah and Mourvedre planted to the unique flat white stone-laden soil, this shows aromas of strawberries and flavors of cassis, persimmon, with a dry, almost savory finish.

Rallo 2019 “Il Manto” Nero d’Avola, Italy (Tim)

Bright cherry fruit notes are delightful in this fresh, unoaked red from organically farmed hillside vineyards in western Sicily. The name Nero d’Avola comes from “black of Avola”, the dark grape from the town of Avola: it’s also referred to as Calabrese. Enjoy with grilled pizza or sausages topped with sauteed peppers and onions.

Beckstone 2020 Horse Heaven Hill Cabernet Sauvignon, Washington State (Aron)

Some 13,000 years ago a sudden ice dam rupture on Glacial Lake Missoula led to widespread flooding in western Washington, spreading loamy soil deposits across the appellation. These soil types make for interesting, complex wines. Medium-bodied with pleasant clove spice and cigar box aromas and prominent black cherry, cocoa nib and savory flavor notes, this velvety smooth Cabernet from Horse Heaven Hills aged 20 months in a combo of French and American oak is a wonderful value! Enjoy with grilled steaks or burgers.

“Meritage” are Bordeaux- inspired red blends made in California. This particular example is made from nearly equal amounts of Cabernet Sauvignon, Malbec, Merlot and Petit Verdot.  Resplendent with notes of blackberry, slate and earthy sage with a very dry finish, this is a good match for grilled pork chops or lamb skewers.
