This elegant Chardonnay is perfect for entertaining, ideally balanced (aged 10 months in neutral French oak) and therefore appealing to a wide variety of palates. Made by Presqu’ile (pronounced press-KEEL), a small, family-run estate, they are certified sustainably farmed, and are located in the heart of Santa Barbara County’s Santa Maria Valley.

Heinrich Hartl III 2016 Rotgipfler, Thermenregion, Austria (Jen & Jerry)

Heinrich Hartl, a star in Austria’s winemaking cast, has been instrumental in bringing back the indigenous varietal Rotgipfler. Rot (rot=red in German) is the color of the young shoots, and the tips and veins of the leaves of the vine. Soil with high limestone content makes Hartl’s Pinot Noir and Rotgipfler exquisite and interesting. Plums, melon, and spring blossom grace the nose while the palate exhibits mouth-watering acidity and notes ranging from green apple to pineapple. Enjoy this complex white wine with salmon with oven roasted vegetables, five-spice roasted chicken, or turkey.

Cavallotto 2018 Pinner, Langhe, Italy (Tim)

The fourth generation of the Cavallotto family is currently working the estate, perched on top of the famed Bricco Boschis cru of Barolo. Officially, this is a white Pinot Noir (100% Pinot Nero fermented with out the skins), although note the pale pink color. Strawberry and raspberry fruit notes pervade and a distinct, pleasing minerality mark this unusual wine with brilliant purity of fruit. Try with clams in olive oil, scallops, or homemade pizza. Owner and winemaker Dorino Livon purchased his first vineyards in the hills of Collio back in 1964, and slowly but surely built his estate.  Refosco is the grape in this affordable, light to medium bodied red with lots of dark cherry and cranberry notes and a touch or earthy moss. Domaine de Tourelles 2013 Marquis des Beys, Bekaa Valley, Lebanon(Pat)

The Domaine des Tourelles estate was founded in 1868 by Frenchman Francois-Eugene Brun but political turmoil ceased all wine production for many years. This wine, crafted from 50% Cabernet Sauvignon and 50% Syrah aged in French oak for 18 months exudes black and red fruit notes accented with cedar, a powerful full-bodied red that will compliment braised lamb, Moroccan sausages, or eggplant stew.

John Pedroncelli first purchased vineyards in Dry Creek Valley in 1927, and the family still runs the estate today. This vibrant red comprised from 81% Cabernet Sauvignon, 12% Cabernet Franc, 3% Merlot, 3% Petit Verdot and 1% Malbec spends 16 months aging in a combination of French and American oak.  Sporting plum, cherry and blackberry notes, and a spicy, toasty finish, it will pair nicely with steaks, braised meats, or aged cheeses.

Bruno Verdi 2018 Sangue di Giuda “Paradiso” (Jen & Jerry)

This unique and delicious red made from 65% Croatina, 20% Uva Rara, and 15% Barbera is slightly effervescent and sweet with 9g/L residual sugar. The Sangue di Giuda (“Judas’ Blood”) can only be made from vines planted in Oltrepo Pavese within the Lombardy region where clay/limestone soils are prevalent.
