WINES TO TASTE SATURDAY 2-6pm

St. Hilaire Brut Blanquette de Limoux, France (Pat)

Well before Champagne was being made in the Champagne region of France, the Benedictine monks of the Abbey of Saint-Hilaire in Limoux were making the World’s first sparkling wines. The grape is a local varietal known as Mauzac. Dry and toasty with a delightful creamy texture, this sparkling wine features pretty apple and citrus notes and would serve as an ideal aperitif or party wine!

Regular Price: $14.99

Mills Club Price: $13.49
Case Price: $11.99

Valley of the Moon 2016 Pinot Blanc/Viognier, Sonoma County, California (Jen & Jerry)

Generous aromatics of peach, honey and ginger delight in this juicy wine with ripe peach notes and a bright pineapple finish. No malolactic fermentation and no oak makes for a fresh expression of these two white varietals grown at Valley of the Moon winery in Sonoma Valley. With a long history, Valley of the Moon was the first winery established on the property in 1863. It was renamed Madrone Estates in later years and ultimately was owned by the famed newspaper tycoon William Randolph Hearst before passing into the hands of current ownership, the Stewart family. Try this wine with grilled chicken and pineapple skewers or sushi.

Fullerton “Three Otters” 2016 Pinot Noir, Willamette Valley, Oregon (Andrew)

Try this enticing Oregon Pinot Noir, aged 1 year in primarily neutral French oak. This pretty Pinot features black cherry and strawberry fruit notes with serious undertones of tea, earth and spice, and would be an ideal pairing with salmon, mushrooms, or filet. The three otters on the label are a nod to the Fullerton family crest, examples of which date back to the 13thcentury in Northern Europe.

Mills Club Price: $22.49
Case Price: $19.99

Puro 2018 Malbec, Southwest France (Andres)

Malbec originated in Southern France, initially known as “Cot”. It is a thick-skinned grape and requires more heat and sunlight than Cabernet Sauvignon or Merlot to ripen. We loved this new version, which not only features deep, luscious plum and blackberry notes but also earth and saddle leather components and medium tannins. Try with grilled steaks or braised short ribs.

This Cabernet Sauvignon has small amounts of Malbec, Petit Verdot, and Tempranillo blended in and spends 8 months in French oak. We loved this Cab, a new arrival from Dancing Crow located in Lake County, a region that has been receiving recent acclaim due to the excellent volcanic soils, mountain climate and moderating influence of Clear Lake, North America’s oldest fresh water lake. This Cab showcases plum and allspice aromas and flavors of dark cherry and cedar, a full-bodied, smooth finish with velvety fine tannins. Try with beef or lamb dishes.
