Francis Ford Coppola Votre Santè 2014 Chardonnay, California (Jen & Jerry)

Francis Ford Coppola’s grandmother Maria Zasa was an Italian woman born in French Tunisia. “Votre santé” was the toast she would utter, “to your health” when she raised a glass, and that’s the inspiration behind this wine. Featuring flavors of pear, peach and honeysuckle, half the wine is fermented in French oak, imparting vanilla and nutmeg notes while the other half is fermented in stainless steel, maintaining the crisp acidity. Try with cream of crab soup or roasted pork chops stuffed with apples, breadcrumbs and raisins.

Regular Price: $15.99

Mills Club Price: $14.39
Case Price: $12.79

Massimago 2014 Amarone della Valpolicella DOCG, Italy (Pat D.)

This Amarone is crafted from a blend of Corvina, Corvinone and Rondinella grapes, hand harvested then placed on flat wooden trays and left to dry for 90 days in a “fruttaio” or drying barn before crushing.  Fermentation in French oak is followed by an additional 30 months aging in oak, then 12 more months in bottle.  Full-bodied and complex, this features bright cherry and brooding black pepper notes and a smooth velvety texture. Try with a rosemary crusted beef tenderloin, or a traditional Italian osso bucco. ORGANIC

Rated 98pts Robert Parker and ranked #5 on Wine Enthusiast’s Top 100 Wines of 2017.

This 1er Cru version from Mont de Milieu vineyard is a beautiful expression of Chardonnay, complex and rich, coursing with minerality from the Kimmeridgien soils. Try with oysters, lobster, crab meat risotto or foie gras!

Escarlata 2014 Colchagua Red, Chile (Tim)

Pares Balta 2015 Mas Petit, Penedes, Spain (Tim)

We’ve always enjoyed the Sparkling Cava wines of Penedes but had not explored many of the still wines of the region- this is a blend of 58% Cabernet Sauvignon and the balance Garnacha, which spends roughly 7 months in used French oak. Medium-bodied and exuding ripe strawberry and raspberry fruits along with toasty vanilla notes, this very pleasing and affordable red would work with a charcuterie plate or empanadas. ORGANIC

Chateau Fontesteau 2015 Haut-Medoc, France (Jen & Jerry)

This Bordeaux from the excellent 2015 vintage year is made from 50% Cabernet Sauvignon, 49% Merlot and a tiny amount of Cabernet Franc from vines just west of Pauillac.  Medium-bodied, it draws you in with a bouquet of pretty berry and cedar notes, while the palate shows fine tannins and lots of red cherry fruit and a balanced amount of spice. Enjoy with leg of lamb, venison steaks, or ropa vieja for a delightful and harmonious winter meal! Rated 91pts Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate.

Robert Mondavi 2017 Private Selection Cabernet Sauvignon, Monterey, California (Geoffrey)

This Cabernet Sauvignon ages in former Kentucky bourbon barrels, and while it might seem faddish we had to admit this wine exuded a simple, deliciousness not to be denied! WINES TO TASTE SATURDAY 2-6pm

Perrin 2017 Cotes du Rhone Blanc, France (Andrew)

A classic Rhone producer, the Perrin family is responsible for such iconic wines as Chateau de Beaucastel Chateauneuf-du-Pape, and Miraval Rosè, but a careful look under the hood will reveal their many affordable and tasty wines, like this white blend made from Grenache Blanc, Marsanne, Roussanne and Viognier. It features citrus and peach notes with a generous dose of stony minerality. Try with saffron chicken, baked rockfish or bouillabaisse, the classic fish stew of Provence.

Denis Meunier 2017 Vouvray Sec “Expresion de Silex”, Loire Valley, France (Geoffrey)

Chenin Blanc is the grape in this organically farmed dry white wine from Denis Meunier, who took over 13 hectares of vineyards from his father and uncle in 2012. The fossilized marine base and limestone and flint (thus “silex”) soil is evident in the pronounced minerality of the wine, which also features bright citrus aromatics and lively acidity on the palate. I’ll try this with a roasted chicken or stuffed pork chops.

Mills Club Price: $22.49
Case Price: $19.99

Bodegas Morca Godina 2015 Garnacha, Campo de Borja, Spain (Jen & Jerry)

Bodegas Morca is situated in the village of Borja in the Spanish province of Zaragoza (southeast of the more familiar Rioja).  This is not a delicate wine but a bold, full-bodied Garnacha aged 15 months in French oak, rich with berry fruit notes and spice. Soft velvety tannins make it an enjoyable glass on its own but it will also pair wonderfully with roasted pork tenderloin, Swedish meatballs or pasta with spicy sausage and sundried tomatoes.

Regular Price: $25.99

Mills Club Price: $23.39
Case Price: $20.79

Jalits 2016 Eisenberg Blaufrankisch, Austria (Tim)

Mathias Jalits is an up and coming winemaker in the Eisenberg appellation of South Austria. Eisenberg is composed of green slate soils with iron deposits, which explains the powerful wines with a strong undercurrent of minerality. Blaufrankisch is one of Austria’s premier indigenous grapes, and can range from fun and fruity to powerful, complex styles. This version spends a year in used barriques and boasts blackberry and cherry fruits and a firm tannic structure, making it ideal to match with roasted meats, mushrooms and wild game dishes.  Rated 91pts by Wine Enthusiast.

Regular Price: $16.99

Mills Club Price: $15.29
Case Price: $13.59

Bulgariana 2015 Cabernet Sauvignon, Bulgaria  (Aron)

Enjoy this inexpensive but delicious Cabernet Sauvignon from Bulgaria, a country about the size of New York State that was once the 4thlargest producer of wine in the world, 90% of which was supplied to the Soviet Union.  Now, the country is focused on smaller yields and higher quality production.  Thracian Valley, which has roughly 75% of the country’s vineyards, is south of the Balkan Mountains and enjoys a moderate climate from the influence of the Black Sea to the east. This wine offers up black plum, blackberry and a touch of spice. Rated 90pts Wine Enthusiast and “Best Buy” designation. Try with cheeseburgers, meatloaf, or Bulgarian beef stew.

Regular Price: $13.99

Mills Club Price: $12.59

Trentadue Chocolate Amore Port, Alexander Valley, California (Andres)

What could be more romantic than a wine called amore? Made from Merlot grapes grown on Trentadue’s Geyserville Ranch, netural grape spirits are added to stop fermentation (similar to traditional port wine production), then chocolate extract is added. This rich, chocolate port can be poured over ice cream or enjoyed as a glass of dessert on its own.

Regular Price: $26.99/375ml bottle

Mills Club Price: $24.29
Case Price: $21.59

WINES TASTED SUNDAY 1-4pm

Fess Parker 2017 SBC Chardonnay, California (Pat D.)

Fess Parker was the famous actor who portrayed Davy Crockett and Daniel Boone during the 1950-1970 timeframe, before walking away from Hollywood to focus on his business career, which ultimately included making estate grown wines from his purchase of 700 acres in Santa Barbara County. Sadly, he passed away in 2010 but the family continues to make great wine! Pick up a bottle of this delicious Chardonnay, which brings flavors of ripe apple, butter, citrus, and light toasty oak from 7 months in French and Hungarian oak aging. We’ll have this with a piping hot bowl of cream of crab soup.  Rated 89pts Wine Enthusiast and “Best Buy” Designee.

Schloss Vollrads 2016 Kabinett Riesling, Rheingau, Germany (Aron)

Schloss Vollrads enjoys an incredible 800-year history of wine cultivation and a castle on the property that dates back to 1330, making it one of the oldest in Germany! Situated in the Rheingau, Schloss Vollrads focuses entirely on Riesling. Medium sweet, this Riesling exhibits plump yellow peach, apple and tangerine flavors with nice zesty acidity.  I’ll enjoy this wine with sushi, spicy Indian curry take-out, or tuna tacos with spicy sriracha cream. Rated 91pts Wine Enthusiast.

Fratelli Manzone 2017 Rosato, Langhe, Italy (Jen & Jerry)

Consider this the perfect winter rosè, skillfully crafted from the Nebbiolo grape in the Langhe region of Piedmont. With its lovely cranberry hue, it shows juicy red cherries, marmalade and rose petal aromas and flavors with a border of wild Italian herb; it is at once intense and vivacious, yet refreshing and thirst-quenching. Excellent with roast chicken or pizza topped with pepperoni or roasted vegetables.

Mills Club $17.99

Case Price $15.99

La Braccesca 2015 Vino Nobile di Montepulciano, Italy (Tim)

Try this Sangiovese from the vineyards of Montepulciano, which surround the city of Siena in Tuscany.   The Sangiovese grapes age in large oak casks for 12 months, followed by an additional 12 months in bottle. Owned by the famous Antinori family, the 1270 acre La Braccesca estate was once held by the Bracci counts, who gave their name and their coat of arms (the gold armored sword wielding arm pictured on the label) to the estate. Pretty cherry and strawberry fruit notes show a counterpoint to the vanilla and violet nuances. Enjoy with roasted lamb, mushroom risotto, or a Tuscan specialty such as Bistecca all Fiorentina (made in Tuscany from the famed white Chianina cattle). Rated 91pts Wine Enthusiast.

Pezzi King 2016 Zinfandel, California (Geoffrey)

A cold winter night would benefit from a glass of this opulent, rich, jammy Zinfandel from Dry Creek valley. Featuring notes of fig, blackberries and black currants with a spicy clove finish, this full-bodied red with balanced acidity will nicely stand up to sloppy joes, barbecue ribs, or baked barbeque chicken.

Cuilleron 2017 Syrah “Les Vignes d’à Còte, Rhone, France (Pat D.)

Many Northern Rhone Syrahs are not ready to drink for years after their release, however this Cuilleron is an exception. Crafted from declassified St.-Joseph fruit, this bold red reveals black fruits, violets, and a touch of umami smokiness. This would be a great pairing for rustic winter dishes such as lamb, veal, duck, or boar.
