TASTING SUNDAY:

Seehof 2017 Trocken Riesling, Germany (Jen & Jerry)

“Trocken” translates to “dry” in German. The Seehof estate is run by Florian Faust, the 5thgeneration of his family farming the trademark Rheinhessen limestone soils.  The soil lends a saline minerality to this Riesling, buttressed by terrific purity of fruit. Enjoy this excellent value with spicy shrimp tacos, pork tenderloin, or seafood.

Case Price: $15.99

Teliani Valley 2017 Kisi-Mtsvane White Blend, Republic of Georgia (Tim)

This newly arrived wine from the Republic of Georgia (widely regarded to be one of the oldest winemaking cultures) utilizes two indigenous Georgian grapes Kisi and Mtsvane. This dry white wine features beautiful rose petal aromatics and grapefruit pith on the palate. Zesty and refreshing, it would make a wonderful aperitif .

Regular Price: $12.99

Mills Club Price: $11.69

Natte Valleij 2016 Cinsault, South Africa (Jess)

This wine is one of our very favorite Thanksgiving recommendations. Cinsault is one of the parent grapes to South Africa’s main varietal Pinotage, but it’s rarely used anymore.  Some wineries such as Natte Valleij are trying to bring the grape back to prominence. The wine is matured for 12 months in a combination of concrete egg and used oak. Strawberry, cherry and plum fruits, earth and spice are accompanied by nice structure; it’s neither too light nor too weighty.

Regular Price: $19.99

Mills Club Price: $17.99
Case Price: $15.99

Domaine le Pinte 2014 Poulsard, Jura, France (Geoffrey)

The grape Poulsard is farmed organically and biodynamically by winemaker Bruno Ciofi in Jura, in the east of France between Switzerland and Burgundy. Winemaking in Jura is one of the oldest in France although it represents a tiny portion of wine production (1%). This fresh, light bodied red has sappy red cherry notes and a delicate leafiness.

Mills Club Price: $26.99
Case Price: $23.99

Chateau Francs Bories 2015 St. Emilion, France (Pat)

This delicious Bordeaux from the excellent 2015 vintage is comprised mostly of Merlot with smaller inclusions of Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc.  Enjoy with roasted or grilled meats or game dishes, or with a plate of aged cheeses.

Alvear Oloroso Asuncion, Spain (Aron)

Enjoy this beautiful sherry made from 100% Pedro Ximinez grapes aged for more than 10 years in oak barrels with bountiful notes of raisins, praline and salted caramel, a silky and soft texture with a full rich finish, that stands on the boundary between sweet and dry. Rated 92pts Wine Spectator. Enjoy this with dark chocolate or perhaps better with a plate of aged cheeses, blue cheeses, cured meats and nuts.

WINES TO TASTE SATURDAY 2-6pm

Peter Franus 2017 Sauvignon Blanc, Napa, California (Jess)

This delightful Napa white offers aromas of mango, lemongrass and passionfruit, with flavors of ripe orchard peaches, white grapefruit and a coursing undercurrent of minerality.  Structure and acidity rein in the voluptuous fruit. Peter Franus, formerly winemaker at Mount Veeder Winery, leverages relationships for access to the most coveted vineyard sites in Napa. Try this versatile white with baked chicken with creamy pasta, or fish with a lemon dill sauce.

Anne Amis 2017 Pinot Gris, Willamette Valley, Oregon (Jen & Jerry)

Dr. Robert Pamplin purchased this estate in 1999; it was formerly the historic Chateau Benoit Winery. All of the estate vineyards are Salmon Safe and LIVE certified. Winemaker Thomas Houseman worked at Ponzi before settling at Anne Amis, where he prides himself in creating wines of elegance, grace and balance, like this Pinot Gris. Floral aromatics give way to a palate of Asian pear, Meyer lemon and rose petal. Balanced and crisp, this would pair beautifully with chicken paella or roasted pork.

Mimi en Provence 2017 Rosè, France (Pat D.)

We find Rosè to still be the perfect aperitif to offer guests, as it appeals to white wine and red wine drinkers alike. This version from Provence is made from Grenache, Cinsault and Syrah. Offering up aromas of strawberries and ripe juicy peaches, this juicy rosè compliments a huge variety of hors d’oeuvres.

Thibault Liger-Belair 2015 Borgougne “Les Deux Terres”, Burgundy, France (Pat D.)

We were blown away tasting this newly arrived, purely delicious wine by landmark Burgundy producer Thibault Liger-Belair. TLB makes Burgundy Pinot Noir and Cru Beaujolais that can retail in the $100s. This wine is the marriage of those two worlds, “Les Deux Terre” translating to “two lands”, with grapes sourced from both Moulin à Vent Cru and Cote des Nuits. Comprised of Gamay and Pinot Noir, this silky smooth red offers intense berry notes awash with food-friendly acidity. We’re loving this wine paired with roasted poultry or hearty seafood dishes. Organic.

Mastroberardino 2017 Lacryma Christi del Vesuvio Rosso, Campania, Italy (Andrew)

Located within Campania, the Vesuvio DOC is known for big, bold reds with intense fruit and minerality from the prevalent volcanic soils. The wine’s name translates to “the tears of Christ on Vesuvius”, as legend provides that Jesus’ tears dropping on Mount Vesuvius sparked the growth of the grapevines.  Mastroberardino is widely considered to be the lead producer of the region, making this red from the native grape Piedirosso. Berry and spice aromas precede rich flavors of dark cherry, raspberry and black pepper buoyed by supple tannins and fresh acidity. Try with braised meat dishes or pizza topped with vegetables and pepperoni.

Austerity 2015 Cabernet Sauvignon, Paso Robles, California (Jess)

This has been a staple for our team for the last year or two and continues to impress vintage after vintage, especially with its value.  Try this robust Cabernet Sauvignon with bold notes of ripe raspberry and black cherry fruit and toasty vanilla spice from 6 months aging in 100% American oak. The long finish will nicely match grilled meats served with hearty roasted root vegetables.

Llopart 2015 Brut Reserve Cava, Catalonia, Spain (Andres)

The Llopart family can trace their proud viticultural roots to 1385, from a Latin document granting ancestor Bernardus Leopardi vineyards in the area of their estate Can Llopart de Subirats. Their first Cava was produced in 1887.  This dry sparkling wine was made in the Mèthode Champenoise, from indigineous grapes Xarello, Macabeo and Parellada, aged a minimum of 18 months.  Featuring bright citrus notes and white fruits, the fine bubbles cleanse the palate making it an excellent wine to serve with a wide variety of appetizers or desserts.  Organic.

Featuring granny smith apple, pear, melon and lemon flavors all wrapped in a creamy, buttery texture with a solidly long finish, this is a great wine for lovers of the classic California Chardonnay profile, especially if you’re seeking a super value. Suertes del Marques 2016 7 Fuentes Red, Valle de la Orotava, Canary Islands, Spain (Tim)

This is a new and exciting red wine for our Spanish section, a blend of Tintilla and Listàn Negro from the Canary Islands! Suertes del Marques is a family winery, established in 2006. They employ minimal intervention winemaking, working with indigenous yeasts and carrying out all harvesting and cellar processes by hand, and employing natural remedies to combat any vine diseases that arise. They use concrete as well as small used Burgundy barrels in aging. This wine, their “village” offering, shows bright, fresh flavors of plum, cranberry and spice followed by a minerally, peppery finish- a direct reflection of the volcanic soils. Rated 93pts Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate!

Crasto 2016 Douro Red, Portugal (Jen & Jerry)

The name Crasto is derived from the Latin world “castrum”, or fortress. The Roquette family has owned the estate for over a century, perched with a commanding view of the Douro River.  Made from Touriga Nacional, Tinta Roriz, Touriga Franca and Tinta Barroca, this bright vibrant red is medium-to-full bodied, with dark fruits and violets on the nose, and morello cherries and cocoa on the palate.
