WINES TASTED SUNDAY 1-5pm

Sant‘Elena 2013 Friulano, Friuli, Italy (Pat Darr)

Previously known as “Tokai Friulano”, Italians have been court ordered to discontinue the use of the word “Tokay” or its derivitives to protect the Tokaj label from Eastern Hungary. So now we have Friulano and the wine is just as delicious! Lively notes of citrus and almond compliment a core of minerality. Sant’Elena hand harvests its fruit- extremely low yields mean approximately one bottle of wine per plant at harvest time, resulting in delightful concentration and intensity. Try with pan-fried white fish with lemon butter sauce and capers, or a roast chicken with thyme stuffing.

Regular Price: $24.99

Mills Club Price: $22.49
Case Price: $19.99

Chateau Vartely 2014 Traminer, Moldova (Mike)

Try this delicious dry affordable white, made from a sub variety (Traminer) of the more well-known grape Gewurztraminer. Aromas of rose petals, lychee fruit and moderate acidity, with shades of exotic spices and tropical fruits. Consider pairing this with smoked foods or spicy foods!

Regular Price: $10.99

Mills Club Price: $9.89

Willm 2013/2014 Pinot Gris Reserve, Alsace, France (Carolyn)

It’s the same grape as your Italian Pinot Grigio, but the taste is quite different. Think honey soaked peaches, apricots and pears, with a more substantial texture and body than your average Pinot Grigio. Try with pan seared snapper, roasted veggies, or mushroom risotto.

Regular Price: $12.99

Mills Club Price: $11.69
Case Price: $10.39

Potel-Aviron 2010 Moulin a Vent Cru Beaujolais, France (Carolyn)

This wine is crafted from the Gamay grape, and unlike the fun and fruity “Beaujolais Nouveau” celebrated and released prior to Thanksgiving, this is a serious complex and delicious wine that drinks much like a fuller-bodied Pinot Noir. Rated 91pts Wine Spectator, “Well-knit, with a core of mineral and spice, and notes of blackberry, grilled plum, tar, dried floral and herb. Fine-grained tannins show on the fresh, graphite-tinged finish. Drink thru 2020.”

Regular Price: $21.99

Mills Club Price: $19.79
Case Price: $17.59

Fattoria Moretto 2013 Lambrusco Secco, Emilia-Romagna, Italy (Pat H.)

Have you ever tried a DRY Lambrusco? From the hills of Castelvetro near the town of Modena comes this version imported by Kermit Lynch, organically farmed by the Altariva family. If you go to Emilia-Romagna, yes, this is what the locals drink! Effervescent, dry, earthy, it pairs wonderfully with food – try with roasted meats, fatty salami, or rich pastas.

75% Grenache, 15% Syrah, and 10% Mourvedre comes from 45 year old vines on an estate founded in 1905, and was rated (91-94)pts barrel tasting by Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate, “it boasts awesome, spice laced black fruit, underbrush, garrigue, and pepper-driven aromatics that flow to a rich, layered and gorgeously concentrated Gigondas.” Pair with your grilled foods, and as the weather turns colder try with meaty stews and casseroles.
