Every month at Mills we change out the 12 wines on the shelf when you first enter the store, our “Staff Picks”. On the first weekend of the month, we taste 6 of the new picks on Saturday and the other 6 on Sunday. We choose wines that represent good value for the price, and that will pair well with seasonally available foods! Join us for this complimentary tasting, no reservations required, and enjoy 10% off the wines being sampled, or put together a mixed case of 12 bottles for a 20% mixed case discount.

Marisco Vineyards “The Ned” 2016 Waihopai River Sauvignon Blanc, Marlborough, New Zealand (Tim)

This delicious new addition to our New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc section features predominant lush citrus fruit and grapefruit notes, vibrant with lemongrass and passion fruit flavors, with underlying minerality and great acidity, this will pair nicely with shellfish, lobster mac-n-cheese or fettuccine alfredo. Rated 91pts Wine Enthusiast “Best Buy”.

Gnarly Head 2015 Chardonnay, California (Andres & Aron)

Spicy fruit aromas accent this medium bodied, dry Chardonnay touched by light toast and ginger. Exuding juicy melon and lemon zest flavors, you can enjoy this with crab cakes or chicken curry. Rated 90pts Wine Enthusiast and designated Best Buy.

Weingut Axel Pauly 2014 Trinkfluss Trocken, Mosel, Germany (Pat D.)

We loved this new arrival from Weygandt imports, a blend of 50% Weissburgunder, 35% Elbling, and 15% Riesling, hand-harvested from very steep hills. Trocken=dry and Trinkfluss=drinking flow, appropriate for this easy drinking wine with beautiful Riesling aromatics and lovely stony mineral accents. Try with sushi, spicy Indian or Thai dishes, ham or as an easy drinking sipper on a warm spring day.

Domaine Fontsainte 2016 “Gris de Gris” Rose, Corbieres, France (Carolyn)

One of our perennial favorites, this dry saignee Rose is a blend of 50% Grenache Gris, 20% Grenache Noir, 20% Carignan, 5% Cinsault and 5% Mourvedre hailing from the Languedoc-Roussillon region of France. The first vineyards in this area were planted by the Romans, around a thermal spring which was later named for Saint Simeon, a local 12th century patron saint; thus the name Fontsainte, “the saint’s fount”.

Domaine Grand Nicolet 2014 Vielles Vignes Rasteau, Rhone, France (Jen & Jerry)

65% Grenache, 25% Syrah and 10% Mourvedre from the village of Rasteau, Domaine Grand Nicolet is led by Jean-Pierre Bertrand. Rated 92pts Robert Parker, “It has plenty of meatiness, pepper and ripe black cherry fruit, medium to full-bodied richness, impeccable balance and ripe tannin. It will drink nicely for 7-8 years and is a hidden gem of the vintage.” (12/2016)

Ripe dark berry flavors and subtle hints of oak and spice characterize this medium-bodied Cab. Grapes are sourced primarily from Lodi AVA. Great price for an over performing weeknight wine, you can enjoy this with grilled foods!

Try this Sparkling wine made in the Charmat method from 100% Falanghina, grown on Mount Taburno (an ancient, inactive volcano) by a consortium of growers.

Matteo Correggia 2015 Roero Arneis, Piedmont, Italy (Jessica)

The grape is 100% Arneis, fermented and aged in stainless steel. This elegant white wine shows notes of apricot and apple and a fresh and harmonious finish. Dry and full bodied. Matteo Correggia, a pioneer in Piedmont who put Roero on the map and was instrumental in establishing Roero as its own DOCG, was tragically killed in a tractor accident in 2001. His wife Ornella and their two children have carried on the winemaking tradition ever since.

Scarpetto 2014 Frico Rosso IGT, Tuscany, Italy (Carolyn)

Master Sommelier Bobby Stuckey and restauranteur Lachlan Mackinnon-Peterson teamed to make Scarpetta, a line of private label wines made from grapes sourced from multiple growers in Italy. This is a juicy Tuscan blend of mostly Sangiovese with a hint of Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon. Soft and fruity, this is easy drinking with delicate spice and a leathery, earthy edge. This would be delicious with pasta with Bolognese sauce or spaghetti and meatballs.

Oyster Bay 2014 Pinot Noir, Marlborough, New Zealand(Jessica)

We are finding that many New Zealand Pinot Noir present great value for the price, and Oyster Bay is no exception. This is oool climate, elegant Pinot Noir, with aromas of black cherries and blossoms and cola and spice flavors on the silky finish. Try with cedar plank salmon or pork dishes.

Tilia 2015 Malbec Syrah Blend, Mendoza, Argentina (Tim)

Tilia is our favorite Argentinian value brand. This blend of Malbec and Syrah will reward you with aromas of black cherries and blueberries with hints of coffee, vanilla, pepper and smoke. The palate features rich flavors of cassis, black raspberries and notes of vanilla and spice. Pair with burgers, meatloaf or steak fajitas.

The 2010 vintage provided near-perfect growing conditions in Bordeaux and the wines are showing beautifully. This blend is comprised of 58% Merlot, 37% Cabernet Sauvignon, and 5% Cabernet Franc aged in oak for 16 months, resulting in a polished claret with tobacco, toast, chocolate and mulled blackberry notes. Try this powerful yet elegant wine with lamb or beef dishes.
