The Colutta farm “Bandut” is named after an ancient piece of land bought by Antonio Colutta in the early 1900s and now belongs to Giorgio Colutta. Pair with crab cakes or fried calamari.

2012 Rodney Strong Chalk Hill Chardonnay, Sonoma County, California (Mike)

I really enjoy and often recommend this very rich yet accessible Californai Chardonnay- a great value which earned 91pts from Wine & Spirits, “This shows a lot of oak at first in its scents of toast and coffee, but there’s a pleasant glow to the fruit underneath.  It feels at once burnished and bright, with creamy richness turning toward lifted aromas of chamomile flowers as it absorbs air. It’s a polished chardonnay for crab.”

2012 Wild Horse Pinot Noir, Central Coast, California (Jen & Jerry)

An ideal companion for salmon, grilled mushrooms or chicken, this wine boasts lush cherry and pomegranate flavors and a rich, smooth finish. French oak aging provides structure and depth. Founded in 1983, Wild Horse Winery is located south of Paso Robles in Templeton, California, and as you might guess was named for the wild mustangs that occupied the hills just east of the vineyard.

2012 Chateau du Segries Cotes du Rhone, Rhone, France (Tim)

A blend of 50% Grenache, 30% Syrah, 10% Cinsault and 10% Carignan. A Wine Enthusiast “Best Buy” and rated 90pts, “Full-bodied but approachable, this wine shows a slightly horsey edge on the nose, and pleasingly suede-like flavors and textures underlying the raspberry fruit.  It’s a complex mélange that should likely be consumed over the next couple of years.” Consume it we will! With cheeseburgers!

2010 Casa de Santar Dao Red, Dao, Portugal (Ryan)

2010 Ridgeback Sweet Viognier, South Africa (Matt)

Ridgeback is a family owned wine farm located just outside Paarl near Cape Town, South Africa, and this white, sweet, fruity dessert wine is just one of their productions we tried and enjoyed.  From the winemaker, “A hedonistic spectrum of ruby grapefruit, orange blossoms, honey, glace pineapple and white peach supported by a seamless line of lime zest acidity.” The origin of the Ridgeback brand derives from the Rhodesian Ridgeback dogs (indigenous to Southern Africa) which are kept on the farm. In earlier days, these dogs were typically used for lion hunting, and embody the strength and quality of the farms wines.
